The customs affairs between the U.S. and Canada are regulated by the NAFTA agreement of 1994, just as between the U.S. and Mexico. The treaty had been designed mainly to liberalize trade in farming commodities, lift customs duties on food products, protect intellectual property rights, adopt procedures for settling business disputes, consolidate labor laws and technological standards, and regulate environmental protection issues.

Obviously, the process of enforcing the agreement went smoothly as the two countries are neighbors and speak one language. Some other ideas behind the NAFTA project were: to further member states’ welfare and development; to facilitate investments; to nurture political conditions conducive to economic growth; and negotiate oil prices. Today, NAFTA makes an economic area with a population of 364 million with a prospect of incorporating new states of Latin and South Americas.

Many USBOX customers order products at web stores or directly from suppliers in Canada. As their products are shipped from Canada to our U.S.-based warehouses, NAFTA is of great significance to us: it just makes our business so much easier, and many Canadian vendors offer free shipping across the U.S., especially for specialist or pricy products.

Bulky and heavy commodities are imported to Poland via ports in Quebec and Saint John.
