Sea freight is far from mild when it comes to shocks while navigating open seas. How to safely put the cargo into the container in order to prevent any damages to the goods?
You should follow the following principles:
- The primary priority is to choose the container suitable for shipping your goods. The size and special handling requirements such as constant temperature and the use of transport safety devices are the most important tasks in the organization of shipping.
- Check the container upon arrival at the port of loading. Check it for the size, holes, edges, cleanliness, resistance to weather conditions and door tightness. The physical condition shall be inspected as if you were going to buy the goods yourself.
- Weight distribution and the use of space. Preliminarily plan how to distribute the weight in the container. The weight should be distributed evenly across the weight and width of the floor.
- Wet and dry, heavy and light loads. If the container is to be filled with both wet and dry goods, do not put the wet goods above or right next to the dry goods. If you do, the dry goods may be damaged by moisture or leaks. Heavy loads should always be put on the bottom; put the lightweight things on top of them. If necessary, use insulation or shock-absorbing materials.
- Load and secure the goods. Use stowage and lock them in place. Do not leave out empty spaces or loose packages on top. Prevent direct pressure on the door; provide separation between the door and the goods. Secure, lock and seal them.
If you follow the above tips, your cargo will be properly prepared for shipping by sea – it will be safely delivered to the recipient.
