Many businesspeople that want to step into new markets have faced the challenge to export their products from their countries on a temporary basis. This issue can be solved with an ATA carnet, an international customs document that facilitates customs clearance.
Customs and tax fees for imported goods are used, among others, to increase state’s budget revenues and to regulate or protect the domestic market of local products by raising the prices of imported goods.
Many businesspeople that want to step into new markets have faced the challenge to export their products from their countries on a temporary basis. This issue can be solved with an ATA carnet, an international customs document that facilitates customs clearance. The carnet can be used whenever you dispatch goods that are samples or are intended for fairing events or shows. These can be items intended for presentations as well as elements of stands, at which a given product should be showcased.
By now, the convention on the temporary customs clearance has been signed by 77 countries (as of June 2018), and the list includes almost all European countries and world’s major economies. Another important thing is the fact that Poland is an EU member, and the ATA carnet is not required to ship goods between EU member states.
The map shows states that acceded the ATA convention.
In Poland, ATA carnets are issued by the Polish Chamber of Commerce. To obtain one, it is necessary to provide information about the destination and the number of exported items. The carnet itself is issued at a fee within several days of submitting an application. Further information about the procedure of procuring the carnet is available here.
